I recently purchased a double-wide mobile home in SC from a developer out of Georgia. The night before we closed he called me at home and told me when we saw the lawyer the next day not to be surprised at some of the numbers the lawyer quoted because in order to get all the money from the lender he had to "play with the numbers a little". Well, he did not play with the numbers a little he molested them. To make a long story short I went through with the closing and then tried to decipher what had been done. I was supposed to finance 60,000 after I put down a 2,100 deposit. The paperwork showed that I financed 72,000 after a 17,000 deposit and the developer paying off 22,000 on a previous place. I have contacted several local attorneys to see if they could help me and no one wants to deal with the problem because the attorney who handled the closing is a prominent attorney as well as in local city government. What I need to know is what are my rights and how do I go about straightening this fiasco out? Is this standard operating procedure for loan companies and developers? Can I force the developer to redo the paperwork and get out from under a 12 percent loan of 72,000 and manage to keep my place? CLUELESS
