What is the name of your state? Ohio

Well I have searched but came up empty handed, so here it is:

Is there such a thing as shared parenting in Ohio? I was told by another father that there is not a plan like that availible.

I currently have my child every 7 out of 14 days. I provide medical insurance and pay 75% of hospital bills. I pay for school clothes and anything she needs. This is my job as a parent so I not bothered by it. My problem comes from forking close to 500 dollars a month to her mother when I am providing all this as well as keeping her for half of the month.

What are my options in they way of shared parenting/joint custody if there is such a thing. What qualifications are there to obtain shared/joint custody if availible?

Any information is appreciated, thank you in advance.

A judge will allow you to do a shared parenting plan as long as both parents agree and you lay everything out. What I mean is that if you and your ex sit down and write everything out and you agree to agree then the judge should be more then happy to not have to make this decision for you. My DH has 50/50 and that is what they did.

I also have a shared parenting plan. However, in Michigan the jurisdiction is left up to each county Judge. Obviously the county I live in believes in a shared parenting plan, while the county west of me doesn't and will grant the father custody only if the mother is deemed to be unfit.

Poster what county do you live in?

It appears that Ohio isn't fond of a 50/50 split, however if you can prove through documentation that you are currently exercising a joint custody arrangement, then you may have a better chance in the court.

I would not tell the court that I want the change of custody to joint custody because of the amount of support that is being paid.

Yes, I have heard that Ohio is not very good at arranging 50/50 splits which is hard to deal with. What action woudl I take to obtain this joint deal if the other party did not want it? I have court papers that list the days I get my child, which ends up being 7 out of 14 days.

Could someone give me a guess to my chances?

OP... I really don't like to dispute Kido but I just wanted to say I don't like the site that she gave you a link to. I'm sure there is probably some accurate advice there however I've found that it also has some very WRONG advice there also. It in fact says on it's site (or at least it used to) that a parent that owes child support arrears can file bankruptcy against them and it's not true so that turned me from that site.

You're very best bet is to call around and get some free consultations from lawyers in your area as they will know the judges and give you a better idea of your chances.
