My friend has a problem concerning her kid's school. Her son has alot of issues, ADHD etc. Well her son's teacher has shared this information with her daughter's teacher. Now the daughter's teacher has sent mom a note about how she knows about all of the problems mom has with son and how stressful it must be for everyone and how she feels everyone should make sure that the daughter has a "good year". She is wondering if this kind of sharing of information is illegal.

Does your friend's son have an IEP or 504 plan on file which may indicate who can be given the information?

How do you know that your daughter didn't share this information with her teacher, initially? I believe the point your daughter's teacher was making is that with all the stress you must have is to remember your daughter is also effected as is the whole family. If there was any reporting of abuse or neglect, the teacher is a mandated reporter in which case the rules of confidentiality are applied differently.
