I am a minor (17) in the state of Ohio who was caught shoplifting 50$ worth of stuff from Wal*Mart, I was told that they would schedule a court date and that I couldn't go back to Wal*Mart, this is my first offense and I was wondering what could happen? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Wal*Mart is not kind to shoplifters. Expect them to follow through on the criminal prosecution, ban you from Wal*Mart and hit you with a civil penalty, which varies based on your state and the value of the merchandise you were stealing.

The criminal prosecuion is pretty straightforward. The civil penalty is something you had better pay or else they will start tacking on extra charges for collections. The ban from the store or chain means that you can be arrested for trespassing if you go back to Wal*Mart.
