I manage an apartment complex and recently had to evict one of the residents. After the judge ordered the eviction, the resident came up to me and told me to get an attorney because they were suing me for slander. I am not even sure why he would be doing this or what he thinks I may have said about him. The only thing I can remember saying about this individual is when one of their neighbors came to see me in my office. This neighbor is a friend of the resident's daughter and came to me to tell me that they were getting a lawyer (which at the time I assumed she meant because of the eviction) and said that the daughter told her that the reason her father was not making the rental payments was because his money was going to his girlfriend's drug addiction. I told her that I was not surprised because the resident himself had mentioned something to me about that when he did his lease on move in day (which I wish I knew these details previous to that day). Can this be considered slander if I agreed with her and even if I had elaborated more on it? Could this in anyway be defamatory of his character or cause him financial loss?
