What is the name of your state? California...

Received a 'CEASE' notice from a local Attorney... The notice is to inform me that I am being accused of 'Slander-Defamation' of a former girlfriend.... It is being claimed that I wrote false and defaming remarks about my previous gal on the internet back in August...
I will admit I was angry and a little irate when I posted the remarks ( I probably wasn't thinking clearly).. The strange thing is the forum that I posted the remarks on is not one that somebody would just stumble across.. You would have to be looking for it or somebody would have to inform you about it, chances are slim to none that a person would find it on their own.... The letter I got today is very 'direct and somewhat 'threatening'..It states that if I so much as post, write, or spread any more slanderous gossip etc.. A Civil Action Lawsuit will be filed with the Courts..And Damages will be sought.....My questions are******************************************..

..Can I be sued for just one incident concerning slander...
..What if the remarks I wrote are 'exaggerated', can that be taken as being 'false'...
..Can they still file a Lawsuit if they desire, or do you think this letter is a far as they intend to take this...
..The letter also states that the 'Forum Administrator' has been notified and that I will be 'Banned' from ever posting on the site again...

..Should I be concerned about the 'Forum Administrator'..what do you think will happen?
..How do you think she found out about the post that I wrote?
..How do you think they were able to trace the posted comments back to me (it is to my understanding that the IP address cant be released without a Court order, so how else could they have traced it?)....
..Any advice or helpful comments would be appreciated....

More Information.....
Yes what I wrote was not exactly true, but I was mad....
I did make very personal attacks on her charachter and referred to her as a sex maniac and I did put her name and cell
number on the forum and commented 'if you want some fun call *******'.
But I did revise the post and removed her number.
I know it was childish, but it is too late now.
What should I do??

How the heck is anybody supposed to guess at the answers to your questions. Yes, you can be sued for one slanderous remark.

Yes,one incident can be sufficient grounds for a slander law-suit.
Since the letter was sent, can a suit still be filed? Yes, anything is possible. I guess it is up to the plaintiff and her attorney.
I don't really know how she found the site that you made the statements on. (maybe thru an investigator or computer expert).
Being banned from a site is serious, but I don't think the administrator will take it much beyond flagging the IP and email address you registered when you posted.
I would take this letter very seriously, the last thing you want is an expensive law-suit against you.
Slander-Libel suits are very very expensive, they can drag on and on causing a severe financial hardship for all involved. Civil suits for defamation-slander are not dischargable thru bankruptcy. Because the attorney for the plaintiff may argue, it was intentional on your part.
