What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Indiana

Yesterday, May 10, 2012, in the mail, I received a Final Notice to Pay Rent or Quit. Typed at the bottom, it states that the date of service was May 7, 2012. The envelope is also postmarked that date. There was no notice left at the property.

I did mail the rent check, and they should have received the check by today. According to the notice, I had 72 hours to either pay the rent or leave the house. Since I didn't receive the notice until May 10th, does that mean that yesterday, they would have filed to evict me?

I've tried calling their office twice, and had to leave messages both times, and have received no response. I have also emailed, and again, no response.

What can I do?

the "Pay of Quit" notice should have been attached to your door or given to you personally as well as sent to you! Since you got served in the mail, you have 3 days from receipt of the notice in the mail.

They may try to say they put a notice on your door, but I don't think they will get away with that. It's more than likely they are satisfied that they received the rent and there should be no repercussions.

Now you know that going beyond a few days will result in a Pay or Quit notice, so be prepared from here on out! :)

Thank you for the reassurance

I got an email from them today, letting me know that they got the check, and that I can pay the late fee with my next month's rent.
