What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Mississippi

5-6 years ago I pulled out a loan from a payday loan place and was making payments on it at the time. Unfortunately I lost my job and have been having trouble keeping one since the area I had initially lived in was only really hiring for seasonal help everywhere so I was never able to establish time at an establishment. A few months ago I got a call from some guy saying that the payday place had submitted a claim from me. My boyfriend at the time gave his bank info to pay it. I thought nothing of it and believed that it was taken care of. This morning I got a call from a restricted number and of course I didn't answer it because I don't answer unknown or restricted callers. Well they left me a voice mail telling me about a bounce check then something about my old vehicle and everything they said was just SO confusing. They gave me a number (855-764-8843) they called themselves recovery management services. So I call them and they explained to me that they were attempting to collect the amount that should have been paid and that the initial payment from my boyfriend bounced and that if I don't get it resolved legal actions will be taken and also something was going to happen with my car. I explained to them I have recently moved out of state (they never asked to update my address which was strange) and that at the moment I am jobless and that once I get a job in my new home I will start making payments again and I had asked what would happen with the car if I couldn't make any sort of payment this month like they asked. All I got was "You have been legally notified" and then they hung up on me. Now I have really heavy anxiety and so of course this through me in a panic attack which took my roommate and his wife an hour to help calm me down. And I have been trying to find answers and one site told me these people are scammers and they're on a scam list and to beware. I have always kept communications with the payday loan place about my job predicament and make a payment when I can but sadly I have been jobless for the past 11 months and have been in a dump. I don't really need this stress added on to my already stressed predicament. All I want is some answers about my loan predicament and what all the loan place can do and are these people calling me legit or scammers? I just want my questions answered.

Companies with "Recovery" in their name are a euphemism for collection agency. You obviously owe all the money on the loan that you didn't play as well as interest which given the nature of these loan sharks is probably way in excess of what you borrowed at this point. The legal action they can pursue is to either repo the car or sue you outright for the money. They may be able to file a criminal complaint against the BF for passing bad checks, but they can't really do anything to you. Collection agents indeed are the scum of the earth, rude, and have no intersest in anything other than convincing you to pay. Unless you have money to pay them, there's no real point in talking to them. No amount of sob story will soften their heart.

If the car is no longer mine, because I sold it and all can they actually repo the car? That's my main concern, I do not want problems caused for my sister who I sold the car to.

Payday loans are unsecured credit. There is no option for them to repossess the vehicle. Their recourse is to sue you in a court which has jurisdiction over you or your assets.
