i am 25 yrs old and i live in texas. i am over $18,000 in credit card debt and hospital bills. i recently had to have several surgeries that were done before my insurance went into effect. this and the fact that i make only $23,000 a year has made me consider bankruptcy. i am drowning in debt. i tried consumer credit counseling services, but i couldn't even keep up with the $400/month payment (not including hospital bills). most of my bills have been charged off and i am constantly having to fight with collection agencies. my biggest concern with this is that i am in the middle of applying for a federal job (one in which they do a credit check). should i file for bankruptcy and if i do, will it effect me getting a job?

thank you.
