My daughter (age 9) flies to visit her father once a month. It is about a two hr. non-stop flight. This week she was not feeling well: she had a sore throat, a fever (around 100), and a slight cough. She was home from school Wednesday,Thursday, and Friday morning. During the day she was feeling pretty well, watching TV, playing on the computer, etc. Of course, at night as she got tired, she would be feeling less well. Anyway, she was scheduled to fly to her dad's on Friday afternoon. She had been fever free since the day before and was up and eating, so I decided it was best that she go ahead and go. I sent her with juice boxes and throat lozenges and gave her some tylenol just before she got on the plane. I should say that my relation with the ex is very contentious; we have been to court many times, and based upon experience, I though any suggestion that I keep her at home would just start a major battle.

Well, of course, sending her has started a fight. Ex has decided I am an irresponsible, uncaring mother and is now suggesting that he will not return our daughter on Monday as scheduled. Did I do anything wrong in sending her? Does he have any excuse for not sending her home?

Hell, I was hoping my son would be sick when I sent them so he could repay the ex & family for sending my daughter home sick the last time - and getting me sick as a result. No such luck.

I wouldn't worry about it a great deal.

You haven't done anything wrong, sounds like dad has unresolved issues.

Rest assured you haven't done anything wrong. Don't feel guilty for sending your daughter to see her father. Sounds like dad would have had a problem with it if you wouldn't have sent her.
He sounds pretty immature.
I'm from Ohio and my fiance has a daughter from a previous marriage...her mother's actions sound a lot like your ex-husbands. His 6 year old daughter had the stomach AND intestinal flu. We still had to drive her the 2 1/2 hours to see her mom PER the court liason. I had to question WHY WE WERE TAKING A PUKING CHILD WHO HAD THE CHILLS, WAS RUNNING A FEVER AND WAS THROWING UP AND HAD THE CRAPS when it would have been better to let her stay at home and recover from her illness. It was DEMANDED that we get her to the meeting point that evening.
Can you even imagine what that was like? The poor thing was laying on the seat with her head 1/2 way in a bag throwing up! And the diahrea? LET'S NOT EVEN GO THERE.
I think you should get in touch with your attorney and let he or she know your concern and the terrible way your ex is treating this situation...he's using it to his advantage - by the way. You did the right thing according to the Franklin County (Columbus, Ohio) court system. I'd call the school 1st thing Monday and explain that dad has some unresolved issues and he REFUSED to return her. Wouldn't that be going against a court order??? Take care and good luck.
