a wyoming district attorney told my husband that he had 10 minutes to sign a deal which would drop all a pending charge if he pleaded to another charge. the plea required that he quit his job of 12 years and leave the state and could not come back for 1 year. our lawyer advised that we sign, he signed it and they said to leave town immediately. he did. but he never went in front of a judge and the crime to which he pleaded was one that he was never formally charged with. i feel that this is illegal. can a d.a. tell you to leave the state? can you be asked to sign a deal for a crime that you havent been charged with? when can he return to the state, it has been a year but we dont know if the judge even signed it.

Q1) "can a d.a. tell you to leave the state?"
A1) No. However, a DA can OFFER a plea bargain that includes a provision for him to leave the state. That is what they did, and your husband agreed in return for dropping other charges.

Q2) "can you be asked to sign a deal for a crime that you havent been charged with?"
A2) Absolutely. There is not requirement that you be charged in a plea bargain. And, let's not forget that your husband accepted this 'offer' upon advice of HIS attorney.

Q3) "when can he return to the state, it has been a year but we dont know if the judge even signed it."
A3) Have your attorney contact the court or the DA.

[WOW, those must have been some crimes if the STATE ordered him out!!]
