What is the name of your state? Alabama
Well, I just finished a four day stay at the beautiful PCF facility at Ft. Sill and I couldn't be happier with my experience. For those of you wondering exactly what goes on around there, I'll try to help by breaking it down day-by-day.
Monday 8/27: I arrived at the Lawton/Ft. Sill airport a little after 4pm. Let me emphasize just how small this airport is. They have ONE airline that services this airport, and that is American Eagle. They also only have 2 rental car counters Hertz and Budget. Anyway, my original plan was to just take a cab from the airport to the front gate of Sill, but it didn't quite go so smoothly. I went up to the Hertz desk to ask about cabs as their were none waiting outside. The lady at the desk pointed me to the counter next to her where an Army sergeant stands at some type of military liason desk. The numbers to the cabs are posted on this desk. I asked him for the numbers and he proceeded to ask, "Where ya going?" I said, "To Fort Sill. He asked, "What are you doing at Ft. Sill?" Like an idiot (I guess,) I said, "Going to the PCF." He said, "Ahhhh...okay, you can't take a cab. The MP's have to come get you." He was VERY nice and we even chatted for a while. He proceeded to tell me he would wait until the airport was as empty as possible before calling...which he did. He also informed me thaththe MP's may or may not search and/or cuff me. Well, they did make me empty my bags, they did pat me down, and they did cuff me but it was all done as inconspicuously as possible. The DA (Department of the Army) (NOT MP's) police were very nice. It was a black guy and blonde white girl. Both of them were from Alabama, so we chatted about that the whole (5 minute) trip to the base. The black officer kept telling me he was sorry the cuffs were bothering me and that we'd be there soon. As soon as we got the the PCF he quickly uncuffed me and we went inside the PCF where I was greeted by Mr. Henry one of the coolest PCF escorts there. He's a very nice black guy who is also a bit crazy and always refers to your A** as "goat smellin'." LOL! I was told to turn around and read some documents on the wall (rules,) and then they took me to a room where I would empty my bags again, and where they would take inventory of my "restricted" items and locked them safely away in the safe. I was then given a brief briefing and taken to chow. At this point I was still in my civilian clothes and no haircut had been arranged. Chow was great! I had steak and mashed potatoes. In fact the food is very good at every meal, and comes from the reception facilty DFAC. After chow, I went back to the PCF (everybody rides on vans everywhere they go...females on one males on another and if they have a lot of returnees... in the back of pickup trucks) where Mr. Henry would issue me my personal hygene items (in a small paper bag) along with my linens. He had another returnee go upstairs to the closet where they keep the issued BDU's so that I could receive my 1 set of BDU's along with 1 set of PT's for the week. I also got a towel, and they brought me my black combat boots while I was being briefed as well. All tpf my equipment was in good order, although the PT shoers were a bit small. Remembert this is all recycled uniforms so the pickings are slim. After I received all of this, I went outside to sit on the bleachers (you do that a lot,) and wait for bedtime formation which is at 2145 every night because lights out is at 2200. To put it in Mr. Henry's terms, You're goat smellin a** will be in your rack by 2200 or else!" I\ll write more about the following days later! More to come!!!
