What is the name of your state? New York
Greetings,
I am new to the Forum, so this may be found elsewhere; but, what constitutes slander? Must it be said in a public place, must there be several "hearers"?
We were three at lunch on Friday [it was msy last day at work having ben let go due to lack of funding for my position] when my boss said that I was paranoid; that I "had been seeing ghosts coming out of the woodwork." Now mind you, he is an officer of the law and recognized by at least a dozen people in the restaurant. Such a 'diagnosis' carries more weight in that circumstance.
If only one other person, the third diner, heard the remark can it still be construed as slander [she is a Board member]. Do I have any recourse for the distress caused by his remark?
I realize that this seems miniscule, but I am curious and I did, and do, feel 'battered'.
