What is the name of your state? KY

My fiancee's former employer is saying things about her to former clients, that the reason that she is leaving her job is because she couldn't handle it and that in a nutshell she asked her to resign, which is not the reason. My fiancee got a new job that is why she is leaving, today infront of the the entire office she said that she was stealing from her and that she is lucky she is not in jail. Can we sue her for defamation of charector or slander?

There are thousands of posts similar to yours so I have prepared a standard answer:

Get a lawyer.

Invest $20K and three years.

Sue the bad people for defamation. (Libel is the general term for written defamation; slander is the general term for spoken defamation.)

If you win, expect them to keep doing it.

If you lose, expect them to keep doing it.

Stand by for other opinions.

I agree, to even consider suing anyone in a libel/defamation case, you better have some bucks to invest. Be prepared to have the case drag on. Be prepared you may lose. If you win be prepared to possibly never collect anything.

But ask yourself this- Are these alledged statements being made true or false??
If there is any truth to the allegations, it makes it extremely hard to successfully sue and win.

False statements- Are a different story all together. Even if you prevail, you may never collect one dime in damages, so what's the point??

Also she is now saying that my fiance owes her $1400 because she doesn't think that she worked all the hours that she supposed to have worked in December, which she has no record of. I told her to shove it, and take us to court if she wanted the money.
