What is the name of your state? CO

Lately I have had alot of trouble with the administrators at my high school. In the latest incident a vice principal lied about me to another student to get them to confess to smoking off campus.

I left campus with my friend to smoke. A campus monitor later went off campus to come after us, and claimed that we were trespassing on private property and needed to come back. The campus monitor saw me smoking, which was not a problem as I am 18. My friend however is not 18, but the campus monitor did not see him smoking. The campus monitor then had us march in front of their golf cart back to the school, where we were searched and then let go. I figured that was the end of it, but a few days later a vice principal pulled my friend out of class. He asked him if he had been smoking off campus, and my friend said that he hadn't. The vice principal then said that I had told him that my friend had been smoking, and then gave him 2 days of In-house suspension.

I did not tell the vice principal or any other staff member that my friend had been smoking. Furthermore, I have never even spoken to this vice principal in my life. All I really want is an apology, but it's very likely that I won't get one, so I'm interested to know what my legal options, if any, are.

Thanks in advance.

You want to sue him?

All I really want is an apology. I am curious if I have grounds to sue though, and also what a suit may accomplish if anything.

You'd spend a fortune trying to make that case, but you could file a complaint with the Principal or area supervisor. You probably won't get much sympathy. However, if the school has specific rules about not leaving the campus you might have to answer to that. I can't imagine the school having any jurisdiction regarding smoking off campus if yours is not a "closed campus". Then again, some states consider the school liable and responsible for students even when traveling to and from school.
