slander, defamation of character wrongful termination

What is the name of your state? Nevada
Is there anything that can be done legally if a former co-worker accused you of doing something that you didnt do, the company did not ask for your side of the story, had no facts, and fired you based on accusations of wrongdoing made by that co-worker? Isnt that slander, and defamation of character? Wasnt the person who was fired wrongfully terminated because he was fired for allegations, not fact?
Any ideas?
Oh I also forgot to mention that after he was terminated, the company held a discussion about the fact that he was terminated and why. Doesnt this violate his privacy? :confused:

A wrongful termination means there is a specific law that prohibits an employer from terminating the employee for that reason. It does not mean that they were fired for something they did not do. So no, the person who was fired was not wrongfully terminated based on the information in your post. He may have been unfairly terminated, but it was not a wrongful (illegal) termination.

It's just barely possible that depending on the EXACT circumstances, that he might have a cause of action agains the co-workers who falsely accused him. He should talk to a lawyer about that. But he has no case against the employer. If they believe the co-workers, they are free to fire him and they are under no legal obligation to get his side of the story first.

Nothing in the law prohibits an employer from giving the reasons an employee was terminated. It might not be the best thing from a management point of view, but it is not illegal and does not violate any of the employee's rights.
