What is the name of your state? Vermont

Recently someone has made false statements in regards to my character and integrity. The statements have resulted in me having to defend myself as a person and my honesty. My work environment has been effected and I'm wondering what rights I have. Can I sue this person for slander? I have witnesses who can verify the false statements were made and I have witnesses who can verify that the statement is in fact false. Where do I go from here?

Try law school to learn the grounds for bringing suit, what the threshold of proof is that you'll need and the elements that are required to substantiate a claim of damages, all of which are lacking in your post.
