What is the name of your state? AL

WHAT ARE THE LAWS REGARDING SLANDER AND DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER IN THE WORK PLACE? SOME OF MY FELLOW EMPLOYEES AND EVEN MANAGER HAVE MADE FALSE ACCUSATIONS ABOUT ME. THESE ACCUSATIONS HAVE CAUSED GREAT PROBLEMS FOR ME. THE ACCUSATIONS HAVE ALMOST CAUSED ME AND MY BOYFRIEND TO LOOSE A POSITION ON STAFF AT A CHURCH. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THEY ARE TRYING TO DISCREDIT MY MORALS AND STANDARDS. WHICH THE FALSE ACCUSATIONS HAVE NOTHING TO DO W/ MY JOB OR THE WAY I PERFORM MY JOB. ARE THEY LEGALLY ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO TALK AND MAKE MY LIFE CHAOS? IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO?

You could tell your co-workers and employer to knock it off. That is probably the easiest solution.

Otherwise, you would need to prove that the statements are false (which, with slander, requires testimony from someone who heard the defamatory statements) and that the statements are affecting your reputation. You must have demonstrable reputational injury - monetary losses in your workplace (perhaps being passed over for a promotion or a reduction in hours due to these statements), or severe damage to your reputation in the community causing you to be shunned, hated or ridiculed.

Speak with an attorney in your area to see if any action against your employer and the others is worth pursuing. Defamation actions are extremely expensive, slander actions are difficult to prove, court cases can take a long time, and you can still lose.
