 What is the name of your state? California (Big Bear lake area).....

If someone did something foolish and ends up being sued for 'Slander'. If the person elects not to answer the lawsuit within the given time frame. It is possible the other party will decide not to pursue the matter? I know in most lawsuits if respondant fails to file an answer, a default may be obtained. Does the same hold true in slander suits? I thought slander was a more complex issue to prove? Can the accused ever be forced to attend a court hearing or trial. I thought in a civil case one has the option to reply or not reply. Any and all advice and opinion is appreciated.

Yeh! It is foolish to slander some one else. Reckless in my opinion. I guess anything is possible. But anything is probable also. Depending on which state you live: if the accused fails to respond to a suit of this nature. I believe all they need to do is present whatever evidence they have and request a closed door hearing with a Judge. the Judge will make the determination and any damages will be awarded at that time. In general, whenever a defendant fails to answer a lawsuit it always makes it easier for the plaintiff to win. there is no defense to combat. Consider also, most courts look at failure to respond as an admission of wrong doing.

It's possible that if you decline to respond the other party will decide to drop the matter.

It's also possible that the moon will fall out of the sky tonight.

Methinks you are indulging in a bit of wishful thinking. I really, really wouldn't count on that solution to your problem happening.
