What is the name of your state? Wisconsin
I currently am building a Mobile Notary business in Wisconsin. I and my fiancé are trying desperately to get this business off the ground right. I recently had a situation where my fiancé did a signing and over a week later the co-borrower, wife, accused him of smelling of alcohol. This accusation was told to their lender, which got to the title company that contacted the signing company to contract a notary in the area for the work. This was my business. This was a complete fabrication as I printed the paperwork went over the paperwork with him and he ate dinner etc, before he left. This business is on an "on call" basis. You always have to be ready to perform. There is no way on God's earth was he or myself intoxicated or smelling of alcohol. As Notaries Public we take this accusation very seriously. The signing company sent me an email of the correspondence that day. The correspondence escalated from smelling of alcohol...to intoxicated to having my name removed from their contact list. I could lose business over this!! Just when I am trying to build one. I want to know if this could be grounds for suit of slander or liable? I want to know if there is anything I can do. I work with these national companies and getting the job done right the first time is the only option for repeat business. There is no going out intoxicated, smelling of alcohol etc. Do I have any recourse against this borrower’s accusation if I lose business over this?
