Hi I own an bar and resteraunt and our local paper has ran an ad that was inaccurate and slanderous what can I do to correct the problem. They have already given me free advertising one ad and also have done an advitorial on the bar . The problem is the first line of the article was closed and we are not. I have lost some business and my phone is ringing off the hook. I also have had them print a retraction but not everyone has read it and I feel like the reputation my husband and I have built up has been damaged by this article is there any one who can advice me on what else I can do can I sue for defemation of character .

Read the section on defamation under libel and slander on personal injury. It is probably not defamation.

As a practical matter there is a limit on what can be done and if you ask them to keep on doing corrections, not just one, for free, it may work. Have them REPRINT THE WHOLE ARTICLE BUT CORRECTED. For every old customer you lost you'd get others.
