What is the name of your state? Massachusetts
I had an incident that recently happened to me and I'm not sure how to proceed. I work for a large retailer that folks in most states would recognize. I've worked for this company for 11 years and my performance reviews have been consistantly very good.
Several months ago we were informed that we had to attend a 2 1/2 day, off-site, motivational seminar. The impression that everyone had was that attendance was manditory. I attended but about 1/2 way into the first day I found that I had some issues with the message and techniques the speaker was using, so I chose to move to the back of the room and limit my participation. The speaker, noticing that I really wasn't getting anything from the seminar suggested that I leave. Since it was a work day, I went back to my office.
On Monday, when everyone that was in that seminar get back to work I got lots of reports of how the speaker used me as an example, by name, of a "bad apple" and that "bad apples need to be removed from the bin". The room was filled with nearly 70 people, including many of my peers, managers and people that I may have to work with in the future. Several of those people, that really know me defended me to the speaker and to others that believed what he was saying. I'm told that even when the speakers assistant tried to get him off the subject, he kept on going and she walked out of the room.
My question is, is this slander and is there anything I can and should do about it? I really feel that the relationships with my co-workers and others in the company has been damaged.
