I am a college professor and was recruited to another university. The university I was at did not try and retain my services by matching the offer that I had received from the university that I am now employed at. In a recent conversation with a colleague at my former university, I was told that another professor stated that they did not attempt to retain me because "it is much more to (MY NAME) situation you know (MY NAME) stole that equipment". The person who said this to my friend and colleague was not in a position of authority and certainly was told in all likelihood by the Dept. Chair. The question I have is how do I seek legal remedies against the person I dealt with who started this lie? I am certain that this has been told to other faculty within the college. Should I file a suit against all people in the college or just the individual that stated this to my friend? Do you think this is a good defamation and slander case?
