My question is - my mother-in-law has been slandered by her former employer. She worked for a bookkeeping and tax service for over 10 years, she recently was told to retire by the current owner (she's only 54). We decided to start our own bookkeeping and tax service, now the former employer is telling everyone in our town she stole files, computer programs and customers. They have even contacted the local prosecuter to charge criminal charges. We have receipts for the computer programs we purchased, signed letters from the customers they brought in their own records. They wont stop this slander and it has continued for over 3 months. Our concern is the tax season is fast approaching and he might destroy our possible business by his lies. What can be done with this?
