What is the name of your state? California

ill try to keep this as short as possible

me and my brother are shift managers at work.
our assistant manager at work is constantly telling employees that we are "worthless" and that we "do nothing" or " know nothing"
its been happening off and on for months but case in point:
yesterday she told a employee "if you want to stay on my good side, dont talk to XXXXX or XXXXX because they are worthless and they do nothing but stand around and talk."

so is there something i can do about this legally?? or do i give up and let her drive me away like she's trying too??

Agree completely! No one is stopping you and your bro from seeking other employment elsewhere. Weather or not what the manager is saying is true & accurate doesn't really matter. They are entitled to their opinions and can terminate for no reason (if you are an employee at will).

Defamation/ Slander has nothing to do with someones opinion. If the manager publicly stated that you were a drug dealer or convicted felon. This on the other hand would be actionable, as long as it is false! Also depending upon whom heard the comments. How did it damage you? Your best bet would be start checking out Monster.com...
