hello, I am self employed and I have just started my own translations agency. Some months ago I hired some translators to help me with a large volume project, I gave those translators a written contract and they had to accept the terms before working with me. They accepted the terms, regarding deadlines and quality. At the end, NONE of them delivered by the deadline, they all delivered past the deadline, so they did not comply with a very important condition of our contract, the files they delivered, they had several grammar mistakes, omissions, etc,. The contract said, i expect to receive the file errors free so you have to revise it carefully. They did not comply with this either... at the end the client (my client) got very upset with the quality of the translation, I also missed the deadline due to the translators delay, and at the end I did not receive payment for the project. The translators started demanding payment and I told them they did not comply with the terms and in the terms it says, "failure to comply with these conditions will result in adjustment of payment, in extreme cases, non payment". Now those translators have posted comments on well known translation sites, saying I am a non paying contractor, that I change my identities (????), I got married a few months ago so I changed my lastname! and they also confuse me with my partner... but they go around saying I change my identities, I have stolen their money, etc... of course, these accusations are NOT TRUE at all.. but they are affecting my performance since I cant work properly, the translators I try to work with believe these accusations, of course they believe anything they read on the internet without even knowing if these is true or the reasons, I am losing money, clients, etc all because these translators have posted those comments which are total lies. I have asked them to remove the comments and they ignore my emails... I need help, I am a hard worker and under no circumstance have tried to run away without paying, I have proof and documents that support my story, I have the signed contracts, I have the emails proving I received the documents passed the deadline, I have proof that shows the angry client asking us to fix all the errors in the files, etc... what can I do?

Well first off they have a right to their opinion, there is nothing you can do to stop that. This is America. Secondly, from what I understand from your post, you accepted their work then turned it over to your client. If that is the case, they may also have a case against you. You contract would be open to opinion anyway, but with that statement alone, you would lose in my opinion. Your contract (or what you put here) doesn't say anything about your client approving their work, only you. If you turned it over to the client, then you had to approve it. I think you should pay them or be prepared for what they dish out, be it truth, or court.
