I am in the middle of a small claims suit against my landlord for electricity paid by me for her daughter that lived upstairs. She obtained a lawyer, which I thought was unusual for small claims. The lawyer sent me interrogatories, which I was not sure how to answer (as far as how specific).
I received a notice from the court that my hearing has been scheduled for 3/15. Her lawyer sent a letter to the court requesting a continuance, because my landlord can't be present. What are my rights in this? Not being a lawyer nor having one I don't know what to do. Can I request a denial of this continuance?
I also found out that the court originally had it scheduled for 2/20, but I never got anything, and her lawyer said "she can't be present that day".
Should I look into getting a lawyer to represent me? I don't know what my rights are and how to fight back against this lawyer. I just want this case over and done with, it seems they keep prolonging this.

Please advise with any help you can

I thought an attorney could not represent you in small claims. Never heard this!

Also I thought if you did not show in small claims, the court could issue a default Judgment.

Why not call the small claims or court clerk and ask if an attorney can appear - thay may have the answer.

I'm interested in seeing what other folks say about this.

That is what I thought too, but I guess not. I am actually going to call the court Monday and ask them why they are able to continually cancel and postpone this case.
It isn't like it is a civil law suit, it is a small claim.

Anybody else have any input or ideas?
