I am a software consultant in Southern California and I have a company that owes me funds on two invoices in the amount of $3,560 and $2,116 respectively.

After going back 'n forth and proposing a compromise, only to be rejected, it looks like court is my only recourse.

Question: I believe California Small Claims Court is limited to around $5,000. Should I pursue each invoice separately in order to stay under the limit, or should I take a different legal approach? If so, what?
