4 years ago, my landlord took me to small claims on an eviction notice. The claim was for $2,496. Outside the courtroom, he and I reached an agreement. We agreed that if I left the apartment that day, I would not have to pay the amount. He said that under this agreement, I would not have to be there. Since he was a lawyer, I trusted him, so I initialed the document on the side, and left. I have seen him several times since, and under friendly terms. Now I get a letter from him in the mail asking for me to make full payment at once, make payment arrangements on the amount plus interest ($3,357), or he will garnish my wages. Enclosed was my copy of the court ruling. Can he do this? What can I do?
