I went to an ob/gyn to get checked for a suspected problem. She had me do the typical routine (gown, stirrups, hold still, etc.), then told me to wait while she looked at something under a microscope in the next room. Comes back 5 minutes later, says to go ahead and get dressed, meet her in her office down the hall to discuss what she found and didn't find.
I meet her in her office and she says she didn'e see what I came in to check for (relief), it's just an allergic reastion to contraceptives. Ok. So she says that I'm ok, that I needn't worry about it, and to change products to avoid further problems. Sends to to the front desk, I pay the receptionist, I leave.
AT NO TIME during the entire appointment does she mention to me a specimen handling fee of $10. Ok so it's ten bucks no big deal. THEN two weeks later I get a bill in the mail from a lab for a ridiculous amount of money for a bacterial screening that I DID NOT request, I WAS NOT made aware of, HAD NOT given consent to the clinic to do. I called the clinic and was rudely informed that it's "between you and the lab". Click. I call the lab and am rudely informed that it's actually "between you and your health care provider". Click. In the meantime I'm getting hit all over the place for late fees, collection people, etc. and I never even REQUESTED this test/screening to be done in the first place!!!!
What are my rights here? Do I have to hand over money to these people to get them away from me? This whole thing is just SO shady and sneaky! What happened here? Please help!

i WOULD SUGGEST YOU PAY IT. tHERE ARE A LOT OF HIDDEN MEDICAL COSTS THAT THE PUBLIC IS UNAWARE OF. There are ususally seperate fees for every dept. Sounds like your Doctor was checking for something. After all you did go to be checked, and had that not performed the test you might heave left with some type of hidden infection. Be thankful your Dr. CHECKED.
