My husband's co-worker said he was told in County traffic court yesterday by a county judge that as of January 1, 2000, under a new federal law (not Florida law) no one is entitled to plead not guilty & proceed to a trial if they were ticketed by a police officer. Further, if anyone in her courtroom persisted in their defense (many brought witnesses, charts, graphs and other evidence) she would not only give them their original fine but also charge them court costs and 75.00 witness fee per officer appearance. I have never heard of this new law and neither has anyone at the 100-person law firm I work for. Did this slip by us? Or did my husband's friend misinterpret the judge's statements? There's a bet riding on this!

I can hear a judge stating that, but as for as a federal law, it would be news to me.

Such a law would also be VERY un-American. The accused is always entitled to be judged by his/her peers.

There's no way if this law really exists that it will stand. It will be struck down, because it is blatently unconstitutional.
The constitution would have to be amended before such a law could stand.--seth
