I was recently playing is a co-ed soccer game as a goalkeeper. As I came out to field a ball I fell to the ground and was sliding. I caught the ball, and curled up into a ball and turned my back to the players, my momentum carried me about 4 feet. I routinely do this to protect myself. As I was sliding, clearly in control of the ball, I female player, much smaller than me, took some steps as witnessed by the referee, and stuck her foot behind my back. My momentum carried me over the player and she tore ligaments in her ankle. This person now claims to take legal action against me. I did nothing wrong, I was just playing the game. I have been playing in a mens league for 15 months and have never hurt anyone. Where do I stand?

My response:

Do you see that writing in RED, above? Without a State name, we can't even attempt to assist you, if we're even able to assist you at all. Laws are different everywhere.

My response:

I was hoping you were going to say "California" because there is a perfect defense to any such lawsuit. The case is
Knight v. Jewett (1992) 3 Cal. 4th 296, which is a California Supreme Court case regarding sport players "assumption of the risk".

If you are sued, have your attorney look this most important case up, to see if there is something comparable in Texas law.
