What is the name of your state?California --Is my Social Security payment exempt from levy? Do I have to file a claim of exemption after it is taken from my account or does the bank refuse to hand it over? Thanks

Prove your exemption status prior to any possible garnishment, once the money is taken from your account you will not get it back without a fight that can get expensive. Contact your bank asap about an exemption.
