What is the name of your state? Tennessee

Back in 1999 at the age of 18, not even one year after getting my drivers license I was involved in a minor accident that was my fault. I had pulled out into another cars path and she hit me.. I was uninsured. I got a ticket for failure to yeild, I never showed up for my court date or paid any fines. A few weeks later her insurance company called me and asked a bunch of questions and never contacted me again. I'm fairly sure they placed a "lein" on my license... meaning TN will not let me get my license untill I cover the damages.

Well here it is 7 years later, I have been driving without a license all this time and am getting tired of it.

Is there some kind of statue of limitations on this?

I know my mother had driven 10+ years without a license due to unpaid tickets and one day after getting stopped and arrestted she discovered there was nothing barring her from getting her license... but this was another state.

Thanks

Q: Is there some kind of statue of limitations on this?

A: Yes and it stopped running the day you got the ticket. The insurance company has no authority to place a lien on your license (whatever you mean by that). It is the government that issues those and since you failed to appear on a traffic charge, you will have to take care of that criminal matter before you can get a license.

Yes..... and no.
If you mean a statute of limitation on the debt....
TN statutory limit on the damages due to the accident: 3 years for property damage and 1 year for personal injury.
However, if they in fact got a judgment against you, that TN judgment is good for 10 years.

If you mean on the fact that you have avoided justice, the answer is no. The SOL 'clock' on your criminal conduct stopped when you were charged.
As for the FTA (Failure to Appear) arrest warrant that is likely out on you.... that won't expire either... until you clear it.

I know my mother had driven 10+ years without a license due to unpaid tickets and one day after getting stopped and arrestted she discovered there was nothing barring her from getting her license.

No the only "scumbag" is me as I actually commited an act with a victim. Hers was merely failure to appear and/or pay fines, no victim = no crime.

Thanks for the replies...

So, let me help you....
She broke the law and got a ticket. Clearly, a CRIME (traffic violation) occured.
She was supposed to make appearance in court on the ticket and didn't. A CRIME (Failure to Appear).
She was driving without a license for 10 years. That is a CRIME. In fact, everytime she got behind the wheel without a license... was a CRIME.

Without getting too much off topic. Its something I consider to be "natural law" while it may not be on par with the written laws of this nation, I do not consider one a criminal if their "offense" had no victim. Drug laws being a prime example.

I can see where your big city "skooling" has lead you wrong. Just because some overpaid WHORE (ie politician) deems something a "crime" (whether by his own accord (executives) or as a group accord (congresses) ) does not actually make it so.

In fact, when they send their minions to enforce their unjust edicts, they themselfs are the criminals, for they are the ones using non-defensive force upon another.

I doubt your "I don't consider" a crime will work in court, will it??
Of course not. The simple fact is.... breaking ANY law (whether you agree with it or not) is committing a CRIME!!

But what the heck... from your post, it was obvious that you were an education dropout with no sense of responsibility or accountabililty. Guess that is just another thing your parents forgot to help you learn.... which SHOULD be a crime.
Better get back in that old double-wide, before the gov'mint man comes a knockin'.
