i put my 1966 skylark gs convertible in storage in a friend's barn in vermont when i entered the us coast guard in 1975. after he died, his son took up residence in the barn. after a several years i contacted him to see how the car was holding up. he wouldn't talk to me but his mother said he sold it after i didn,t answer his letters. i know this isn't true because his mother could have told him where i was, but the fact remains he did something with the car. it was in excellent condition and is worth a significant amount of money today.

do you have any suggestions as to how I could go about finding my car since my friend's son isn't helping. i contacted ny dmv, the last state of registration, and vermont dmv, the location of the barn, but they have no records since the car was registered so long ago. I now live in nj. what are my legal options, I'm afraid that the statute of limitation may apply. i'm willing to take legal actions.

I can use my state as a reference and the laws of Vermont are probably similar. After 7 years the vehicle would be considered abandoned and the owner of the property could dispose of the vehicle. Unless you had something in writing, you are most likely SOL.
