Sold tobacco to a minor- North Carolina

So I was at work the other day and watching the last two minutes of my shift pass when someone walks up and asks for a black and mild(Cigar). He looked young so I ID'd him and sold it after checking. Except I screwed up... I saw the date of birth and my mind said "18" even though it was 17... a stupid mistake I haven't made before and there was an undercover officer behind him.

I was given a court date and I just want to know what to expect... this is my first offense and my first conviction of any kind. I had a clean record before hand.

Here is what a Macon newspaper said:
"A district court judge may fine a violator up to $1,000 or order community punishment of up to 30 days if the defendant has no prior convictions. If the store clerk does have prior convictions, the judge may also order jail time. Selling tobacco to an underage person is a Class II misdemeanor."
