What is the name of your state? Oregon/Washington

I had a 1970 Mustang that i sold 10 years ago. It was registered in Oregon, and sold in Washington state.

Ten years later, today, I get an email from someone saying that he is looking for the title of a 1970 Mustang registered under my name. This person is looking to buy it. I obviously don't have the title anymore, and I don't have a copy of the bill of sale, it's been so long.

It concerns me that this car is still registered under my name, and I wonder what my options are. Is there a way to remove my name from the car, or do I still have a legal right to the car. (Not that I want it, just curious)

Thanks for your help.

The current owner should be able to file for new title under a "lost title" claim with their state DMV. The state DMV may contact you to determine if title really has transferred.

You don't have a legal right to the car -- you sold it.

I contacted DMV to try to get some more information and to let them know that the car is no longer mine. Apparently I was supposed to tell them in 10 days or something, but I was unaware of that. Young and dumb.

That won't work if the vehicle is still in Washington, only the legal owner of a vehicle can file for a lost title. What the OP can do is give the current vehicle owner a release of interest. If the car is in Washington, print out the form linked here and follow the instructions.
