IAM AM A YOUNG SINGLE FEMALE WITH A SMALL CHILD. tHE FATHER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CHILD NOR DOES HE PAY ANY CHILD SUPPORT. I HAVE ASK HIM TO RELEASE HIS RIGHTS TO THE CHILD AND HE HAS AGREED TO THIS. DO I HAVE TO GO THROUGH A ATTORNEY TO GET THIS DONE OR CAN I DO IT MYSELF?

My response:

You had better use an attorney. Not because I want all attorney to get money, mind you. That's not the issue. The issue is one of "informed consent." Pay for his attorney to advise him of his rights and to place in any such agreement that he received "advice of counsel." That way, 4 years from now, he can't come back at you and say: "Wo is me, I didn't understand what the heck I was doing. I want baby."
