What is the name of your state?NC

Wow, after reading this particular part of the law, seems like the best advice is just to get over it, and move on. Still would like to know opinons around my situation since everyone's is unique.

Worked for an IT company for 7 years. Had good reputation and performance records (special bonuses, etc.) Never got verbal/written warnings. I understand NC is an 'at will' state, so I don't expect to be warned that I am being let go.

I had been friends with a couple (husband/wife) for over a year. The guy worked at my company. Their relationship was rocky, and the couple decided to seperate and wrote up a separation agreement, but never notarized it. They both asked me for advice, and I gave them little (I was also divorced and had been through what they were going through.)

The guy didn't like me talking to his (ex) wife and went about calling one of my family members, two friends and his (ex) wife to tell them he was going to get my fired (claimed I was having an affair with his wife, which is false.) I told them not to worry, I was an excellent employee, and he was just trying to be macho. I DID NOT tell my company he said this. Two days later, I get pulled into the office and was fired. They claimed my position was obsolete. My direct manager could not even look me in the face he seemed so ashamed at what he was doing. One week later there was an add for my replacement.

Interesting point of the story, this guy who said he was going to get me fired called a good friend of mine the day I was fired to tell him that he had done it, gotten me fired. However, he called my friend before I was notified (say 1PM.) My friend called me to tell me, but I was not at my desk (1:10PM.) As soon as I got back is when I was called in to a 'meeting' and fired (4:00PM.) I was escorted back to my desk to get my stuff and heard the message on the phone from my friend saying this other guys claims he got me fired, and wanted to warn me and see what this was all about. So my friend knew hours before me that I was fired. I also have a couple emails and a chat session with this guy where he threatened me directly that he was going to get me fired, and one saying he was responsible after the fact (kind of a 'told you I could do it')

I do not know for certain his caused me getting fired. I know that he used the presidents personal attorney to do some legal work against his ex-wife, so assume he had some influence with him. I do know for a fact from friends that I still have/had at the company say that he surfed the web for 'how to fire someone in NC' and got to the companies confidential cell phone records where he saw that I called his (ex) wife several times. I have also been told by other people still with the company that he was walking around the day after taking responsibility that he got me fired. I also have a friend who was a senior level manager (who had already left the company), say that I was on the 'keep' list if they ever had to let people go (meaning I would be one of the last ones to be let go.)

Thanks for your opinions/advice.

Thanks Belize.. you broke the water and got the 'Nothing you can do' post out of the way. I knew it was coming. Good to know that I still have some rights in the great USA, like Slander, Libel and Defamation :D
