What is the name of your state? Tennessee
My son was renting a house in March, 2002. He was away from home all day, and the house burned. State Farm Insurance is suing him for negligence as they say he caused the fire by putting cigarettes in a trash can. The head of the Rescue Squad, who answered the call, and is a certified electrician says the fire was caused by a short in an electrical outlet where a carpet shampoer was plugged in. He is going to have to go to Circuit Court. Is there a statute of limitation on subragation from an insurance company? This happened 4 1/2 years ago. What is the name of your state?

Just curious,****************************...Who did the investigation? The fireman?

There is more to the story, so please fill it in. Four years is not along time for things like this.

Is it noted in the records that the cause was a short? Where was the short? In the machine? Who noted it was caused by a fire in the trash?

House is located in the country. Rescue Squad covered the fire. No investigation by State fire marshall as no sign of wrongdoing. The shampoer was plugged into a wall plug. According to the head of the Rescue Squad, who is a certified electrician, fire was started there by a short in the wall plug. State Farm's "expert" says it was caused by negligence since the occupants of the house (my son and his girlfriend) smoked. We have a letter to the effect of the short in the wall plug from the head of the Rescue Squad, and this has been sent to the State Farm once. Don't understand why they have waited this long to sue.
