What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York
Got married to a Brit in England 2002. Lived over there till 2008 when I managed to immigrate him to the US. He wasn't happy in the US and in June of 2010 when I was away for the weekend he packed up and went back to England. Yep Abandondment!!! He left no forwarding address or number to contact him by. His Facebook acct isn't working either. So now its been over a year and I want to divorce this guy but have no way to serve him. Does anyone know the legal aspect of abandondment???

Abandonment isn't your issue. You can just file for divorce. Since you don't know how to reach him, you'll probably need to serve him by publication. In order to ensure that it's done properly, I'd suggest an attorney. Since he won't be able to contest the divorce, it shouldn't cost you all that much in legal fees but you can be comfortable that it was done properly.

Are there any children or any property to divide? If so, that will complicate things, but probably not all that much.
