What is the name of your state? Arkansas
i recently recieved my award letter from ssa and i was under the impression that my spouse and children would also be included automatically. does a seperate application have to be filed for these benefits? and will they be entitled to the same backpayment period of 3 yrs that i got? im confused as to what i need to do about this. any advice would be appreciated. thank you

I do not believe your spouse can collect on your SSDI .
I know of cases where couples have been living apart , the children are living with the other Parent , and The Parent receives a check FOR the children .

I'm not sure if that would apply with living together . SSA would have to have the children's information .

Call SSA's toll free 800 number and ask . If apprved , I beleive they would be entitled to back amounts too.

thanx for the quick reply.
i know that the children could recieve a check and i believe the spouse(thats how they come up with the family maximum) its 150% of what i recieve i think.
my question is, would they get backpay for 3yrs also? or only from the time the application for them was submitted?

Family Max . as dicribed her is if you were deceased , not alive .

Again call SSA directly to find out , if anyone else in the Family is entitled , and if so about back amonts .

Ok I also found this http://ssa-custhelp.ssa.gov/cgi-bin/ssa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=504&p_created=975951245&p_sid=6nTFu2bi&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9MzcmcF9wcm9kcz0mcF9jYXRzPTAmcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MSZwX3NlYXJjaF90ZXh0PWZhbWlseSBiZW5lZml0cw**&p_li=&p_topview=1

I can't answer your questions , directly , that's why I sdvised to call SSA .
