I'm 56 years old. I've been working since I was 16 until June of 2017. At that time I was terminated for "schedule adherence" due to my many absences for several medical issues. I applied for disability social security in September of 2017. I received a letter today saying that I was approved for the medical disability portion but that my onset date will be 01OCT17. But the letter says that they are still processing the non medical portion. And I will receive a letter soon about that. Can someone with experience in disability social security explain this? Thank you. Again, this is for SSDI not SSI.

I believe the non-medical portion refers to your earnings over the years and when your earnings ceased or fell below the level allowed to qualify for ssdi. They need to qualify you, first, and then calculate your monthly payment.
