What are the laws for married couples both receiving SSI benefits
Is there a set limit for them as a couple?
Or would they continue to receive their separate checks as before
their marriage?

Thanks!

The federal benefit for an individual is $674 for a person in an independent living arrangement. The federal benefit for a married couple is 1 1/2 $674 which is $1011. A married couple or a couple that holds out as married gets less in federal benefits than two singles. Your state may or may not add to the federal benefit.

In California, the state supplement is $171 for an individual and $396 for a couple. More than twice as much, but not as much as it was in 2008 before the huge state payment reductions (3 of them) in California in 2009.
