What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ

I recently was able to stack coupons at an online retailer, I received about 90% off retail price. Their website does not say that you are not allowed to stack coupons, it is silent on the matter. Their customer service contacted me saying they had a glitch in their system and they want me to either pay the difference or return the items. I haven't replied. Can they force me to return the items? This was about 2 weeks ago, they shipped everything and they are still sending me back-ordered items. What is their recourse? Do I have to return the items or pay the difference from the discount? Thanks

Yes, you have to return the items or pay the correct price. You are not entitled to profit because of a technical error. They have your credit card number so if you do not return the items, expect to be charged the correct price (after one discount).

And they can expect a successfull chargeback, especially where no signature is present on the transaction. Just because someone has your credit card number doesn't give them the right to re-use the card for additional unauthorized charges. I make my living on no signature internet transactions. Not having a signature makes a chargeback pretty much unwinnable. I know, I've lost thousand$ due to chargebacks, AFTER delivering the product the past ten years.
That said, they do have a claim, and you should pay it voluntarily.

This is a rather useless website, like getting advice from a taxi driver:cool:

Not how much you post, It's how much you read. It does not take much reading to figure out just because some one has 10.000 posts and senior status and 9.000 of those post's are just criticism and pointing out grammar and spelling errors and confirming what the last 5 repliers said that you need to be a bit leery.

"Do I have to..."

What do you mean?

They won't arrest you.

They won't reposes the goods (unless they have a security interest / lien on them)

They may (will) attempt to incur the charges on your card.

They may issue a bill and take you to a collection agency. This may (will) impact your credit rating negatively.

They may sue you. The likelihood of this depends on the bill total.

You may be unable to do business with this vendor again. I would not.

Wow, that got everyone riled up, I'm hearing a lot of hostility, why are all of you so angry?
My answer was factually correct and neutral in voice.

You can keep the items, but, with predictable consequences.

Your unwillingness to believe that you cannot retain the items and not suffer consequences sounds more angry and entitled than any responses.

The merchants error is just that - an error.

Let us reverse the situation - by an order entry technical error the merchant sends you an item worth 90% less than what you paid for...

What resolution would you expect?
