What is the name of your state? Texas

Hello, this is my first time posting here and im looking for some information. I am about to finish an 18 month lease coming up and my apartment complex is offering much higher rates for new lease or month to month flexibility if I want to stay.

I have been paying $871 a month for the 18 month lease. They want to raise it to $1205 for a 6 or 12 month lease or $1350 for month-to-month. My friend lived at the same complex a few years before i moved in and the complex was under different ownership. I recall that when his lease was ending, his rent was going to be raised as well, but it was capped at a 10% increase. This was stated on his lease renewal paper years ago. Maybe my memory is blurred or sugarcoated in my favor but does anyone know where i might be able to find city specific information regarding rent control or anything that might help?

Thanks for any help!

Is there a Rent Board in your area? How about a tenant/landlord organization? You could also Google Texas rent laws.

If the rent cap was years ago, there's a good chance that it was changed.
