What is the name of your state? WA

I am not sure where I should post this. Zabasearch.com has a listing with a current and many past physical addresses and birth dates for just about every person in the USA. An old stalker boyfriend found me through zabasearch (he admitted it) and has made threats to come to my house.

I went to: http://www.privacyrights.org/ar/infobrokers.htm who say that zabasearch have an opt out policy, and apparently they only accept snail mail letters with your details.
Zabatools
P.O. Box 45210
Omaha, NE 68145

I sent a letter via mail to zabasearch telling them to remove me from their database with immediate effect, but they still haven't! Anybody can find out where you live from zabasearch.com, and they even have a friggin map to your house!

I feel that they are privacy violaters. Is there anywhere I can find a legal format letter to send them and instruct them to remove me? Is there anything else I can do to force them to remove me from their database?

I don't know the legal answer to your question, but I have a suggestion.

I hadn't been aware of Zabasearch until reading your post and I was curious, so I went to the site and searched on myself. It was immediately obvious to me, from the information that came up, that the information they were receiving was all from the phone book. The information that showed was all two years old and under a different name which I no longer use. I no longer live at the address I was showing at (although I COULD be reached through that address if you try really hard) and one of the two phone numbers that showed is no longer in service. (Again, if you tried really, really hard you could still find me through the other.) My current address and phone number are listed under my husband's name; my current information did not show at all.

You might be able to solve the problem from a different direction if you change your phone number to an unpubished one.

Or if you don't want to pay the charges to do so, use your last name as your first name and your first name as your last name.
In other words if you would normally appear in the phone book as Roe, Jane because your last name is Roe, flip them and get listed as Jane Roe. (Jane would be your last name). You can do this. I know because I have done it. You can also get listed under your middle name and maiden name or a variety of other ways.

Did you notice the link attached to Zaba? This leads to "possible" relatives. Is this info picked up from "public records"? I looked up my daughter and found her to be born in 2005. I was listed as being born in 1996. Whaaaaat?!

As I searched further, it appeared that at one point I was older than my mother and my daughter was old enough to be my Grandmother! Huh!!! YIpes! No branches on THAT family tree!

I was of the belief this info on Zaba was obtained from the County Clerk. Whoa! I am now wondering if the County Clerk is still in the womb!

I didn't find neither my wife nor myself in their database. While I haven't had a phone in my name for 10+ years, my wife has 2 currently in hers.

Another little trick:
You can have your phone number listed without an address attached. Then change your number. While zaba will catch on when they update, who knows how often they do that?

Stay Safe

I can totally understand your frustration, and recognize your fears. A stalker can get so much information about you, it is frightening...
I am currently being stalked and am in the process of disappearing from the radar screen. I highly reccomend the book " How to Be Invisible" by J.J Luna.
Some of the ideas in the book are impractable, some seem like they border on paranoia, but it has tons of info on what information is in data bases and how to avoid it....one of the most disturbing to me was the fact that if you fill out a change of address form, the info goes into a National "Just Moved" database and the P.O SELLS that list to 3rd parties....I always figured that if I told the post office I was moving, they would keep that info to themselves....
Good luck and stay safe.

Thank you

 Thank you all for your comments. Our phone number is unlisted. We believe that zabasearch.com got my details when I bought a new house last year. All of a sudden we were bombarded with all kinds of junk mail and solicitations. I am going to send them a final letter by certified mail telling them to remove me from their database within 10 days or they will be hearing from my attorney.
