I was wondering if some could post a basic outline/steps in legally starting a business.

There are no "basic steps" -- its very dependent upon what kind of business you want to open, where it is located, what sort of business organization you choose (LLC? Corporation? Partnership? Sole Proprietor?).

Your best bet is to head down to your local library, they should have books on opening you own small business. If you live in or near a descent-sized town or city, they may also have resources avaialble for small businesses.
