Im want to start an online business in Virginia. Basically Im going to be selling homemade video tapes of certain interests. Im going to be the only one working the business for now. Im not sure what type of business it should be, I would like to limit my liability to just my business if possible?? But this is more of a business for fun, not so much one for me to quit my current job. Also along with your recommendation, could you recommend a place where I could get my business license rather easily?

Thanks a lot!

New Internet business

For most small businesses, the best and easiest way to limit personal liability is with a Limited Liability Company (LLC). It protects you as well as a corporation would, but with much less formality. It is also much easier to form and maintain. For a slight charge, you can get the forms and instructions for forming a Virginia LLC at http://secure.uslegalforms.com/cgi-bin/forms/add.pl?m9Bug9BB9B9EEqi7Rs9wvYFOFaxWqReS.

You can get your business license at the city or county administrative building for your area. Before starting a business, I would recommend you read the FreeAdvice material at http://business-law.freeadvice.com/starting_a_business/ and the IRS material, which contains much more than just tax topics, at http://business-law.freeadvice.com/starting_a_business/.
