I have a wrongful death case in a state that has a cap for non-economic damages. Is there any way to get around the cap?
I am talking to a lawyer in that state, and he says there is, but he will tell me only after I sign with him.

You might want to replace "in a state" with *the* state to get the most accurate information.

State Cap

The state is Maryland.
I've read through the statutes and they sound pretty iron clad. Even if a jury does award, I am assuming it would be reduced down to the cap anyway.
Does anyone here know a way around the cap?

lil.....the cap in Maryland is only for non-economic damages, and is currently at $600,000. The way the attorneys get around the cap is with econiomic damages, which are not caped. The ideal client is a young child or baby in wich economic damages can be very high as with an older person the economic damages may be very low. I have 2 sister cases to mine going on in maryland right now for med-mal and product liability which have resulted in serious injury (not death). be careful in your selection of counsel.
